  skos:scopeNote "از حل شدن گاز‌هایی چون گوگرد دی‌اكسید(SO2)، كربن‌دی‌اكسید(CO2) و اكسید‌های نیتروژن در آب باران، باران اسیدی تشكیل می‌شود. حل شدن مقدار اندكی از گاز‌های كربن دی اكسید، گوگرد دی اكسید و اكسید‌های نیتروژن در آب بارن، نه تنها بی‌ضرر است، بلكه بخش مهمی از چرخه‌ی فرسایش و رسوب‌گذاری سنگ‌ها و دیگر مواد معدنی را تشكیل می‌دهد، ولی با گسترش روز افزون صنایع و وارد شدن میلیون‌ها تن گاز اسیدی به هوا‌كره، مقدار نیتریك اسید و سولفوریك اسید در باران افزایش یافته است. این موضوع موجب باران‌های بسیار اسیدی شده است كه هم به ساختمان‌ها و هم به موجودات زنده آسیب می‌رسانند. باران‌های اسیدی با اسیدی كردن آب رود‌ها و دریاچه‌ها، زندگی آبزیان را دشوار و گاهی مرگ‌آور كرده‌اند. هم‌چنین، باران‌های اسیدی باعث حل شدن مواد معدنی خاك‌های حاصل‌خیز، به ویژه یون‌های كلسیم و منیزیم و به اعماق رفتن آن‌ها می‌شوند و به این ترتیب، امكان رشد گیاه در آن‌جا از بین می‌رود. راه مقابله با این پدیده، پاشیدن گرد آهك و خنثی كردن پ.هاش آب یا خاك است."@fa .
